Cushion Cut Engagement Rings

If we had to describe Cushion Cut Engagement Rings, we’d probably say they’re the hybrid of a Round Diamond and a Square. Cushion Cut Diamonds are basically a soft square, or a square with rounded edges, so they’re not quite round but also not a traditional square either.

People love them for their shape and the fact that they have that Brilliant sparkle the same as a Round Diamond, but what most people don’t realise is that you can get Square or Rectangular Cushion Cuts. This adds variety into the designs you can create with this Diamond, but also means that every single Cushion Cut Diamond will be different and with a slightly different shape, so there’s additional elements we consider when choosing the right stone for you.

One thing we pride ourselves on though is honesty, so when someone is considering a Cushion Cut there’s one thing we like to explain. Cushion Cuts are often quite deep, meaning that a lot of the weight of the stone is held at the bottom or ‘below the surface’ almost once set in a ring. Put simply this means that they often look smaller from the top or in a ring than a Diamond of a different shape in the same size would and because of this aren’t the best stone to use if you’re after value for your money.

Depending on the type of style you’re considering using a Cushion for, there are other ways you can get a Cushion shape, but also value for what you’re spending. One of our favourites is incorporating a halo (small Diamonds around the centre stone). What we can do here is actually use a Round Brilliant Cut Diamond in the centre (better value for size) and set the surrounding Diamonds in a Cushion shape. This will give you a ring that overall looks like a Cushion, but will give you much better bang for buck than if we used a Cushion Cut in the centre.

Like anything though, if your partner has solely instructed you to look at Cushion Cut Engagement Rings, or maybe you personally just only love Cushion Cuts then this may be all that’s relevant and that’s okay too! If this is the case, then we work with you to create a design that will give you the shape you love, but minimise losing too much size and value too.
